THE FRANKLIN SHOW.

great display df cattle. RECORD AYRSHIRE CLASSES. PEOPLE'S DAY TO-DAY. The Franklin A. and P. Association's 39th annual show was opened at Pukekohe yesterday in fine weather. Held in the centre of one of the most fertile districts in the province, the fixture attracted a large number of entries, the stock generally being of very high class. With the exception of draught horses, pigs, sheep and mots, all classes showed increases, the most notable sections being those devoted to dairy cattle and light horses. A remarkable feature of the show was the splendid representation of Ayrshire cattle. This class had crown from last year's 32 to 107, stock coming from as far south as Te Kuiti. Competent authorities declared that a finer show of this breed had not previously been seen in the province. Jerseys were again the strongest section, attracting 194 entries, including many champions from other shows. Milking Shorthorns and Friesians also made an excellent company, the only weakness in the cattle' section being the small attention paid to beef types. • The chief contributors to the total of 505 entries in the horse section were saddle and harness horses, ponies and hunters. Draughts had fallen away from last year's figures, the increasing application of motor power to farm tasks largely accounting for this. The sheep section was weak in numbers, only the Romney classes attracting much competition. The juvenile, produce and roots sections were well filled, the total entries being 812. The show on tho whole was a credit to the district and a great advertisement of its productivity.., The high standard of stock shown proved that farmers are successfully striving to improve their herds. The utility strains were most m evidence, proof that farmers are more and more iudeing animals on results rather than fancy points. The aggregate entries, 2076, exceeded those at many large will be continued to-day. The Prime Minister, Mr. Massey, and the Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. K. H Bollard, will be present. Given line weather people's dav should prove a conspicuous success. There are trade exhibitions and sideshows to attract popular favour, as well as a splendid programme of ring events. Arrangements for the despatch of the day's events have been organised by the president, Mr. j. • Shipherd, and the secretary, Mr- D- K. Hamilton, supported by an able committee. Following are the awards:-—
