PUBLIC WORKS TENDERS.
ELECTRICITY AND RAILWAYS.
Tenders accepted by the Public Works Department include five for equipment for the Waikato hydro-electric service. The largest is that of £11,341 by the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company for transformers. For four contracts for metering and substation equipment the successful tenderers were the Vickers Company (two contracts). Dansey and Company, and G. Stamp Taylor, the total price being £1927. For additions to the Tokanui mental hospital, the department has accepted the tender of Christie and Son, £4020. W. K. Cook has been given the contract for the erection of a police station at Rawene, the price being £1595. In connection with the "(East Coast Main Trunk railway, Williams and Humphries have been .given the contract for the erection at Tauranga of station buildings, to cost £742. For platelayers' cottages, the department has accepted a tender of £2480, by E. Macpherson. A new post office is to be erected at Foxton, the contractor being H. E. Townsbend, whose price ia £2648.
