JAPANESE NAVAL VISIT.

AUCKLAND PROGRAMME. ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETE. SHIP& DUE ON TUESDAY. Arrangements, have been- completed for the reception and entertainment bf the officers, cadets and men of the Japanese naval: squadron, which will * arrive' in Auckland on Tuesday. The following programme was approved at a meeting of the citizens' reception committee held yesterday. The warships are due to arrive at 10.30 a.m., and during the morning the official calls on the admiral will bo made by the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, the chairman of . the harbour board, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, and the officer commanding the military district, Cql. H. R. Potter. ViceAdmiral Saito, who commands the visiting squadron, will be entertained at the Northern Club. In the afternoon be will return the calls and. will, later receive callers on the ship. The same afternoon the cadets will be taken by tramcars to the Zoo and the EHersllfl racecourse. A civic reception will be tendered at the Town, Hall in the evening.

Trips and Entertainments. On Wednesday morning, men of the ships' will taken for tramcar trips and the Govarnor-General will address the cadets. The vice-admiral and officers will, lunch at the Northern Club. A trip to Motuihi has been arranged ;.'or the cadets in the afternoon, while th<» vice-admiral and officers '. will be taken for a motor drive. The Governor-General will entertain the vice-admiral and officers at Government House in the evening, while the men will be the guests of the Northern Boxing Association at a boxing carnival in the Town Hall.

Thursday morning's arrangements include a motor drive for the officers and a trip and luncheon for the cadets at Maungakiekie. In the afternoon, a garden party will be held at Government House, and in the evening the vice-admiral will give a reception on board ship. The men will be taken for tram trips during the day. Additional tram trips for the men will be given on Friday. Vice-Admiral Saito will be "at home" in the afternoon, and in the evening the Navy League will entertain the men on Prince's Wharf. . On Saturday, the vice-admiral, officers and cadets will leave for Rotorua, while 1000 men will be taken for a trip to Motuihi. A boy scout rally will be held at the ' Domain in the afternoon, while an invitation to be present at the races at Alexandra Park has been extended to the men by the Otahuhu Trotting Club. Two Ships to Berth at Wharf. Another 1000 men will be taken for 0 trip to Motuihi on Sunday. The squadron will leave on Monday morning for Noumea. While in Auckland the visitors will • be given the free use of the tramcars, baths, libraries and the Zoo. On the arrival oi the tbxeo warships, the Asama, which is the flagship of tho squadron, and the Ynkumo will nerth at the east side of the Prince's Wharf, the Asama at the inner berth, and the Yakurno at the outer berth. The Iwate will anchor in the ; stream, and remain there while in port. The ' reclamation work between the ferries and the Prince's Wharf has been expedited to permit of free traffic to and from the wharf. A large' portion of the ground has been top-dressed with scoria, and much of the surface has been tarred and sanded. Consequently • there is now a wide roadway leading to, the new wharf. PARTY COMING BY RAH:. VISIT TO WAITOMO CAVES. [BI TBLBGEAPH. —OWN COE&ESPONDENT.] Friday. ' The Prime Minister extended an invitation to Vice-Admiral Saito and several of the officers ■of the Japanese Naval Squadron to travel to Auckland by the Main Trunk railway and to • visit the Waitomo caves and the Waikato district en route. The vice-admiral has replied, stating that he is deeply sorry that he will be unable to accept the invitation ol: Mr. Massey in person, as he is not able to leave his flagship. He has indicated that a commander of each of the three waijships and two other officers will gratefully accept the invitation. The party, who will be accompanied by the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, Mr. J, Risiop, will leave by the mid-day Main Trunk express to-morrow. They will alight at Te Kuiti and spend the week-end at Waitomo. They will proceed to Hamilton on Monday, visit the Ruakura State farm that day, and arrive at Auckland on Tuesday morning.
