COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING.

(VX TELEGRAPH.—-own CORIIESPONCENT. TAURANGA. Monday The Tauranga County . Council met on Friday. The '.Public Works Department forwarded authority for the expenditure of £1674 on a £ for £ basis for the erection of two small bridges and road improvements to portions of the TaurangaTe Puke Road. ' The chief traffic inspector to the Auckland City Council wrote asking the council to agree to a reciprocal arrangement in connection with the cancellation of certificates of competency to drive motor-cars issued by the Auckland City Council. It vi as stated that the Tauranga County Council did not issue drivers' licenses, but the council approved of the request, and decided to ask the Tauranga Borough Council and Te Puke Town Board to give it their support. R. Page wrote tendering his Mr. J. R. Page wrote tendering his resignation as engineer, as he had accepted a position on the staff of the Waitemata County Council as engineer to the northern or Akarana portion of that county. The resignation was accepted with regret. , . • • „ Mr. F. S. Dyson, chairman of the No. 3 highways district, wrote asking the council to take tallies of the traffic on various roads. The council decided to instruct the surfacemen to take tallies. Tho Publio Works Department forwarded an account for SSSxt. being half* cost of keeping a portion of ' the Tau-ranga-Waihi Road open for traffic during the winter of 1922. Mr. Hum© said that the department had employed six horse teams in carting girders between Tuapiro and "Waihi; before this carting commenced the road was in good' order. The council refused to " accept, responsibility for the expenditure, and appointed a committee to wait on Mr. P. S. Dyson, district engineer, on tho matter. . " Tenders for five contracts for road improvements were received, and the lowest tender in four instances was accepted.
