REQUESTS TO MINIBTER* [BX TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OTOROHANGA, Monday. During th» recent visit of tha Minister for Public Works, the Hon. J. G. Coates, to Otorohanga, a number of local requests were brought under his notice. He promised to look into the question of the erection of a bridge at Toa'e Crossing, on the Waipa River, by his department, and, to make an early start if possible. A suggestion that the allocation of the cost of upkeep of the Whatawhatihoe Bridge, between. Otorohanga and Waipa Counties, should be ' 37£ per cent, each, leaving Kawhia to pay 25 per cent., was promised consideration. In reply to representations on behalf of a portion of Kiokio ratepayers wishing to link up with Te Awamutu, Mr, Coates said that the Waitomo Power Board must first be formed, and that adjustments of boundaries could be made later. ' ? Mr. B. W. ' McVOly, General Manager of Railways, who accompanied the Minister's 'party was asked to make separate arrangements for dealing with goods and gravel traffic at the local station, the latter, operated by two companies, coniiiderably impeding the facilities for goods loading and unloading. Mr. McVilly said that Jie sympathised with the request, and promised to consider it. Later it was; announced that one of the gravel companies had been promised the right to erect a separate siding, to which, it will load ingle direct from a scoop in the river to the railway trunk.
