An earthquake destroyed two towns on the frontier of Ecuador and Colombia. JTho death-roll is heavy. Eighty-five bodies have already been recovered froln the ruins of Cumbal, which, .with tho tov:n of Chile, suffered most severely. According to meagre reports a large number of people were injured. The last, severe earthquake in South 'America occurred in November last year nod devastated the north coast of Chile. A toll of 1800 lives was taken and the injured numbered over 2000. In five towns or villages over half tho . inhabitants perished. Cumbal is a small town in Colombia at the foot of a volcano of the same name. Chile is situated in Ecuador.
