JERSEY CATTLE SHIPMENT.
VALUABLE IMPORTATIONS. A consignment of cattle, comprising 14 purebred , Jersey bulls and heifers, arrived at Wellington "last week from London by the Port Victor. They have been imported by Mr. H. E. Martin, of Christchurch, who accompanied the animals on the voyage, and complete a herd of 24, brought direct from Jersey Island. \ The remainder of the. herd, numbering 10, had previously arrived by the • Port Denison. Those beasts which made the ~ ' passage in the Port Victor stood the trip well, and even made weight. Among the ' herd are five ■"'.nils and one heifer by '; Xenias Sultan, a, famous bull which was ■ sold for £6000 to go to America. Other members of the herd are by suoh notable j sires as Blonde's Golden Oxford, La Gloire Cid, Golden Maid's Double, Jersey. Volunteer, and Cid Gauntlet. Mr. Martin has also purchased three milking Shorthorns : from, the Duke of ' Westminster's famous Eaten Shire Estate, and these will be sent out as soon as the foot-and-mouth restrictions have been, re-, moved by the British Government. AH three can boast 'of ' ancient lineage, and their dams and great-dams , were - noted in their time for their prodigious milking powers, and general utility.
