MRS. JANET MUNRO.
74 YEARS IN DOMINION.
Another of the hardy band of pioneer settlers, Mrs. Janet Munro, has died at Clevedon in her 37th yea?. • Deceased was born in Nova Scotia, and came to New Zealand with her parents at the ago of 13 years in the ship Margaret. Hex father, the late Mr. Hector Sutherland, with his wife and family of two sons and five daughters, settled in Waipu, and she was the last survivor of the family. ■In 1858 she married Mr. George Munro and came to her home at Clevedon on a sledge drawn by two bullocks through a rough bush track. \ At first they lived in a raupo whare until timber was pit-sawn on the section and a house built. During the stirring times of the Maori war she was obliged to leave for Auckland with her three children, # while her husband joined the forces in the stockade. Having lived in the Clevedon district for 65£ years on the same farm, Mrs. Munro was widely known and was highly respected. .... , ■ - * Mrs. Munro's husband predeceased her by eight years, when 90 years of age. She is survived by seven sons and two daughters, 40 grandchildren / and three greatgrandchildren.
