MR. BROAD'S REJOINDER.
"DEPARTMENT HAS BUNGLED." [BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NELSON, Sunday. Mr. C. H. Broad, principal of Nelson College, in referring to the Defence Department's reply to his remarks concerning the Riddiford Cup competition, "says that it is perfectly clear that the Department has bungled, in that units have been barred from participating in the competition owing to their being below the declared minimum strength of 100. If the Department's statement that the conditions do not make it necessary that a school should be of thti strength of 100 or more is correct, how is it, Mr. Broad asks, that the Department came to debar some schools under that strength from competing? Mr. Broad adds: "It is also surprising that the Department should state that the programme was sent out to all competing schools some weeks before judging took place ? It reached us six days before the. competition."
