THE LABOUR MARKET.
POSITION AT AUCKLAND. A total of 130 applicants for employment were on the books of the Labour Department at noon on Saturday; ok" these 87 were fit for heavy work and 43 for light work. ; Men described as "labourers" headed the list, the 63 under this heading including 45 capable of heavy work. No fewer, than 32 different occupations are represented, the. highest number in any one. apart from labourers, being eight. During the past week the department found work for 37 applicants, of whom 12 were labourers taken on by the. Public Works. Thirteen other labourers were sent to private employers. Other men for whom work was found were: factory hands, farm hands, handy men and scrub-cutters, two each; and painters, rough carpenters, storemen and packers, one each. ,
