GENERAL INCREASE OF SALARIES.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 4.55 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 7. In the Legislative Assembly the Premier announced an increase of salaries of public servants. In the general division the basic salary has been fixed at £206 a year and in the professional and clerical divisions at £286 a year. The increases total £53,616 a year. N.S.W. TEAM FOB BISLEY. SYDNEY. Dec. 7. . <j. Williamson, J. Shearim and E. Shannon have been selected as the New South Wales team for Bislev. REGISTRATION OF NURSES. SYDNEY. Dec. 7. In the Legislative Assembly the Nurses' Registration Bill was introduced. It provides for the establishment of a board to suspend nurses from practice when deemed necessary. Nurses will be classified as general, mental and midwifery. At the expiration of a year it will be J ii offence, for persons not qualified to ;issumc the titles mentioned.
TENNIS TEAM FROM ENGLAND. SYDNEY, Dec. 7. Mr. W. F. Dunlop, on returning from a tour abroad, said he had negotiated with representatives of the French and English tennis authorities. The latter promised to send a team to Australia next year.
16 COMMONWEALTH SHIPS SOLD. SYDNEY, Dec. 7. The Commonwealth Shipping Board has disposed of 16 steamers— of the. number of vessels for sale under Mr. Larkin's reorganisation scheme.
