PROBABLE WHEAT PRICE

PENNY OVER LAST YEAR. NO INCREASE IN FLOUR. POLLARD AND BRAN CHARGES [fit TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHUECH. Friday. It is freely stated in grain and milling trade circles that the prices for the new season's wheat will be one penny a bushel above those paid for grain from the old season's crop. This is the basis of the offer made by the millers, who are expecting an official acceptance from the Wheat Board. The opening prices for the wheat last season wei'3: Tuscan, 5s Id; Hunters, 5s 3d; and Pearl, 5s sd. These prices were those paid to the growers, and, in addi- j tion, millers paid 2d a bushel into the i wheat pool and Id brokerage. Monthly j increases on these prices begin from June. I i The offer by the millers, which followed a ; conference last Tuesday, is th'it the i ' monthly increment shall start this season j jin May, instead of June. The Wheat , J Board may decide that this season, as the i crop is small, less than 2d a bushel need j be paid into the pool. If so, farmers will ; receive the advantage straight away of j any difference. Despite the increase in i the prices of wheat, millers do not intend ; to advance the price of flour. There may ! be an adjustment in the prices of pollard ! ! and bran, but the millers claim that this i I will not give them any greater return. The idea is that less difference should exist between the two prices, and so the i price of pollard will bo reduced, and that for bran increased. If such a change is effected it will, it is considered. _ discourage a practice of milling bran into pol- | lard. r If the Wheat Board agrees, to the suggested prices for wheat, as is considered probable, confirmation will still have to be made by the Government, but it is not expected that the Government will object, for its officers have been closely in touch with the negotiations between the millers and the representatives of the growers. ____________
