PREMISES NOT CLEAN. FINE IMPOSED ON BAKER. A charge of having unclean premises was brought against A. E. Thomas (Mr. Butler), a baker, of Dominion Road, before Mr. J. W. Poynton. S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. The Inspector of 'Factories, Mr. W. Slaughter, said the place was in a filthy condition when visited. It was clean when inspected in April, before Thomas took it over. Dr. J. Boyd, of the Public Health Department, gave corroborative evidence. Counsel contended that the inspections had been made when alterations were, in progress, and when the premises were being white-washed. Thomas said he had spent a great deal of money on renovations, and the renewing of drains. The inspector had come when everything was UP The magistrate, remarking that -the The magistrate, remarking that the case was not a bad one, inflicted a fine of £2, and costs, 7s.
