THE ETIQUETTE OF CLOTHES
In one of a series of articles written for an English contemporary journal, Lady Kitty Vincent has something to say on the " etiquette of clothes." ■ ! ' " Clothes should never be the first thing which strikes the onlooker about & woman," she observes. It is a case o$ putting the cart before the horse. Lovely frocks should bring out subtly aid indefinably a person's .best points. It is no use wearing a gown because it is a beautiful thing in iteelf if it is not going to become the wearer. In that case it would fulfill its purpose better if it were hung on a stand v to be admired -as a master-piece of the designer's art. Everybody should try to be dressed as neatly and as charmingly as possible for whatever they may be doing. A gown that wouM look charming at Ascot would be ridiculous in the country, and a tweed coat and skirt would be out of place in the Royal enclosure, although to be too simply dressed is never as- bad as being too elaborately turned out." * •
