GIRL GUIDE MOVEMENT.

ESTABLISHED FN AUCKLAND.

TAKAPTJNA TRAINING CAMP.

FIELD DAY NEXT SATURDAY.

Ilia recent reorganisation of tho Girl Guide movement in New Zealand, with headquarters at Auckland, directs public attention to ono of the most important movements ever launched in the Dominion for tho benefit of the girlhood of the country. In Juno last, a meeting was held in Auckland to further the establishment of tho movement, and since then negotiations have been proceeding with headquarters, London, with tho result that the following congratulatory cablegram was lately received from the Chief Guide, Lady Baden Powell : " Delighted recognise Auckland Association as Dominion Headquarters Girl _ Guides. Congratulations on start achieved, and wish every success." Steps are now being taken to perlcct the organisation. Lady Jellico© has consented to become president of the movoment in Now Zealand, whilo the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe, an English girl guide, is also'taking an active interest in the Dominion effort. The girl guides of the Auckland Province are fortunate in having as their provincial commissioner Mrs. W. 11. Wilson, whoso interest in the movement is keen. Lady Chayter has accepted tho appointment of provincial commissioner for Wellington. The extent to which the movement has grown during tho the last few years may he gauged from the fact that in the British Oversea* Dominions .alone, there are already over 40,000 guiders and guides of "all ranks, and in the British Isles, Overseas Dominions and foreign countries, tho total strength is over 475,000. Imperial Guide's Visit." The Y.W.C.A. has generously agreed to house the girl guides in Auckland until permanent premises tire found. A number of girls have been in training for some time as guides under Miss Wright, gymnasium mistress at the Y.W.C.A., herself an English guide. A further stimulus to the movement in the Dominion will be tho arrival on Monday cf Miss Prior, ail Imperial guide, v. ho has been visiting Australia in the interests of the girl guides. A training camp has been established at " Taft," St. Leonard's Roadj Takapuna, and here, during the coming week, tho Auckland captains will reccive instruction from Miss Prior. A Field Day will bo held on Saturday, December 15,* when 400 guides will talus part in a sports and games programme. A welcome will bo accorded Miss Prior at a meeting to be held in the Town Hall concert chamber on Monday evening. The Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, will preside, and addresses will be given by the Governor-General and Miss Prior. The latter will visit Auckland schools on Wednesday .and Thursday next, and thus bring" before the senior girl pupils the aims arid objects of thfe movement. What the Movement Stands For. An admirable outline of what the girl guide movement stands for in the girlhood of the nation is contained in a message recently received from Lady Baden Powell, which is as follows: — '"I want to send greetings from the girl guides of Great Britain to the girl guides in New Zealand. We are very many miles apart, but there is one thing that brings us very close, and that is, that you New Zealand girls have now come into the big family of 475,000 guides spread across the world. You are now wearing the same guide badge, the emblem that we all have to remind us of our three-fold promise. Guiding has proved for the last few years that it is a movement which is going to help you and help your country too. You have a Jot to learn to become really efficient guides, and much to do in making the world a happier place to live in. Every guide's business is to do her best to bo capablo and careful, helpful, healthful and happy; then she will be doing something that is worth while. "The movement is yet young in New Zealand, and on the shoulders of every girl who joins the guides rests the good name of the whole movement, so that I trust every member \yill stick to the guide law, and see to it that the work is carried on along the best lines in New Zealand. We in the Home Country are watching yoa with intense interest and pleasure and are glad to welcome you as a part of the big sisterhood."Signed, Clave Baden Powell, Chief Guide.
