JAPANESE CRUISERS.
THREE TO VISIT AUCKLAND.
ARRIVING FEBRUARY NEXT.
ALL FIRST-CLASS UNITS. SIZE AND ARMAMENT. Advice has been received at Auckland that three Japanese men-of-war, the Iwate, Asama and ' Yakumo, will arrive at Auckland, from Wellington on February 12. They will stay at this port for six days and will sail on February 18 for Noumea. The warships are due at Wellington on February 4. The three vessels are first-class cruisers and are of similar size. • . The Iwate was completed in 1901 and is B£oo tons displacement Her speed is 20.75 knots and she carries * complement of 483. Her length overall is 400 ft. The vessel is armed with four eight-inch guns; 14 six-inch and 12 ■ 12-pounders as well as eight 2£-pounders and four small guns. She is fitted with four torpedo tubes. The Yakumo was also built in 1901 and she is 390 ft. long with a displacement of 9860 tons. Her crew total 500 and her speed is 20 knots, jjer armament is somewhat similar to the Iwate's, but she has five torpedo tubes.
The .Asama carries a crew of 500. Her length is 408 ft. and her displacement is 9750 tons. She can steam 21.5 knots. Her armament is similar to thaC of the Iwate and Yakumo.
