CITY LOAN PROPOSALS.
EXPLANATION BY THE MAYOR.
RATEPAYERS' MEETING TO-NIGHT.
It is the desire of the city council that the ratepayers of Auckland should be fully informed on the loan proposals which are to bo submitted at a poll on Wednesday and in accordance with this desire the Mayor, -Mr. J. Hl' Gunson, will deal with the proposals in an address to be given in the Town Hall Concert Chamber this evening. The phenomenal expansion of the city has created an insistent demand for extensions of the tramway system in general directions and these proposed new roads already carefully planned will call for on expenditure of £280,000. The construction of a large impounding dam in the Huia Valley, with the necessary pipe line to. the city to cater for the growing water consumption of the city dwellers will absorb another £300,000, while a further £120,000 is required for drainage extensions to ensure the maintenance of the good health of the city. A further amount of £10,000 is also sought for the purpose of bringing the city's quarry plant up to date in. keeping witli the council's modern roadmaSing policy. These sums, making a total of £710,000, are enbodied in the issues to be submitted to the ratepayers on Wednesday. Fully explaining the firmness of the various departments concerned and the details of the proposals now put forward, the Mayor will have displayed on a screen a series of graphs Bind tables as well as about 60 photographs showing the council's operations in the various watersheds of the Waii takeres.
