Baird, teacher at" Rotokaltahi and Rnnaruna half-time schools, was received with regret^ :f the secretary being instructed to send a-. letter of. condolence to the relatives. ;,; y?" ■ The fai'uro of school committees to consider possible building ■) extensions ; when laying down extensive • ground ' improvements formed the subject of a memorandum; from the department, stating thatcases had recently , come > under its ; notice in' which ": consider-hie : .% expenditure Iliad thus been necessitated. ": It was ,- therefore desired ■that special attention should be given to the ■: location of fixtures provided by voluntary contributions : arid- subsidy, as the department: would be unable to accept liability either by special grant or by subsidys toward the cost of .removal and re-erection of such fixtures. Several requests have lately ; been-made by 'country % school committees for the establishment of dental surgeries at the schools.:;; A memorandum was ' received yesterday from ' the :;; department stating that: the I Health ; Department had recently met these applications v with '* the I information that no more dental nurses -were/ at present available. . It was .'decided/ on the motion of Mr. . King, that;: in \ view of :the urgent; need , for dental attentica "among 1 the children of country schools, ai suggestionshould be made 'that the department endeavour to. make arrangements >for" dentists in /private; practice :- to visit < these outlying districts. . '- , V" .-.'.- ..i; A letter was received J from I the Helensyille School Committee whether, if -a 'high school were established, there, railway concessions would still be ; granted to pupils ; ; attending the Auckland Grammar' School. The board decided to inform the committee that the ? matter '% of the granting of concessions rested with" the department. .'./«■ •~; A request from/, the Grey Lynn 1 School Committee that the proposed additions to the hschool take the form, ■of;H a separate infant department was referred i/, the advisory inspector for a report; , *"* A : memorandum was received -from-, the department ; stating that the 1 - matter* of additions to the Papakura School := would | be fully investigated; by.' an S officer of the department who would shortly.,visit Auckland. , ' '* ' 3
