FIRST BUSINESS SESSION.

SUCCESS OP MAORI MISSIONS.

The Auckland Methodist District Synod opened: yesterday morning in the ■Pitt Street Schoolroom, the chairman of the district, the Rev. P. N. Knight, presiding. ■: Mr. Knight extended to the representatives from the country a hearty welcome to the city. The election bf officers resulted:—Secretary of Synod, the Rev. W. A. Burley; assistant secretary, the Rev. W. G. Slade; journal secretary- the Rev. R.-B. Gosnall: press reporter, the Rev. T. R. B. Woolloxall; -reporter for / Methodist Times, the Rev. 'J. Richards. )l The financial report of the , home mission and church extension ' department was presented by the Rev. Q. Bond. Mr. Bond and Mr. J. Veale were heartily thanked for their work as treasurers of the fund, and were recommended to the conference for re-appointment. The Rev. T. G. Brooke presented the annual report. This being Mr. Brooke's final year as general secretary, opportunity was taken to express the appreciation of the synod for the magnificent service rendered by him during his 15 years of office. Many speakers testified to the zeal arid efficiency shown by Mr. Brooke, arid .the marked improvement in the mission organisation of the church, under his administration. /. The Rev. A. J. Seamer, successor to the Rev. T. G. Brooke, introduced the recommendations of the Home Mission Executive on organisation. The conference was recommended to appoint the Rev. T. G. Olds as Mr. Seamer's assistant. . The report on Maori missions was also presented by Mr. J. Seamer, who was heartily congratulated on the establishment of a hospital for Maori? in To Kuiti, and on the increases in native converts and Sunday-school scholars. The synod wilt meet every morning this week at 9.30, and in the afternoon at 2 o'clock.,
