KOHIMARAMA NEWS.
COMPLAINTS OF RATEPAYERS.
ASSOCIATION FORMED.
A meeting; of the resident* of rama was held recently to discuss matters in connection with the local government of the district. General dissatisfaction was expressed in connection with the treatment received from the Tainaki West Road Board,* owing to the fact that the board has consistently collected r: *-?s from this district and spent them elsewhere. It was sitated that, apart from loan money. very little of tho general rates had been spent here for years. Another matter of complaint was the fact that the Ferry Company charged the same fares to Kohimarama as to St. Heliers Bay. After a good deal of discussion it was unanimously decided to form a Ratepayers' Association to further the interests of the district. The following officers were elected :—President, Mr. Anderson ; vice presidents, Messrs. White and Hawkins; secretary, Mr. Phillips ; executive, Messrs Amos, Hill, Hubber, Madill J. Andrew and B. Andrew. It was resolved to wait on the Road Board at the earliest oportunity to discuss the various matters brought forward, and it was also decided to take concerted action to secure representation on the Road Board for tho district. The secretary was instructed to prepare, a petition for "signature protesting against ferry fares. During the last few months a strong committee has been organising social evenings to raise funds to provide a piano at the public school. The sum of £115 has been secured and arrangements have been made to purchase a piano at an early date.
