TWO DUELS DECLINED.

The hearing was continued to-day of the petition of Francesco Lubrano di Negozio, a prominent shipping agent residing at Darling Point, who is seeking a divorce from his wife on the ground of misconduct with Luigi Vitali, Italian Consul, from whom £5000 damages are claimed.
The petitioner was questioned regarding his statement on the previous day to the affect that the co-respondent had offered to fight a duel with him. He said: "When a duel was mentioned, I opened the door and went out. I am not a fencer." A second duelling incident was mentioned as having occurred when petitioner and his wife were on the voyage from Australia. A matter arose in which a ship's officer considered that a reflection had been cast on his honour. This officer and another waited upon the petitioner and challenged him to a duel. However, be felt' disgusted, and did not fight. Petitioner added that Vitali held the rank of commander in the , Italian fleet during the war, and up to the time of the estrangement the families were the closest of friends.
