MR. BONAR LAW'S FUNERAL

BURIAL IN THE ABBEY.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. -1.50 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 5.

Large crowds testified their sympathy at the funeral of tho late Mr. Bonar Law to-day. A shovt service was held, first, at St. Columbus' Church of Scotland, of which Mr. Bonar Law was a member. The coffin was placed on a catafalque aC the head of the church, and was covered with the Union Jack and numerous wreaths, the vendors including Ministers of the Cabinet, the Government of France, Dominion representatives, and Mr. Lloyd George. The cortege then motored to Westminster Abbey. The pall bearers were the Prince of Wales, Mr. S. M. Baldwin (Prime Minister), the Earl of Balfour, Mr. Austen Chamberlain, Mr. J. W. Whitley (Speaker of the House of Commons), Mr. K H. Asquith, Lord Carson, Lord Beaverbrook, Viscount Fitzalan, and Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald, who escorted the coffin over the last part o' the routeThere was a distinguished assembly in Westminster Abbey, including the overseas Prime Ministers. The coffin was covered with a pall of gold embroidery, and was carried up the stops to the llfar in solemn procession, the choir chanting tho burial service. Then the choir sang " Strife is Over," after which the coffin was taken in procession to the graveside. On the coffin, which was covered with a purple carpet striped with white, was a beautiful urn containing fhe ashes. The coffin was lowered into the grave with the words, " Ashes to ashes, dust to dust." Kipling's "Recessional" and the "Funeral March" by Chopin concluded the service.

Among the wreaths at Mr. Bonar Law's funeral was one sent on behalf of ♦he New Zealand . Government, inscribed "with deep sympathy."
