GERMAN SAMOAN INJURED.
ANTAGONIST AT COURT. [BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] TE KUITI. Tuesday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, J. Hobson was charged with assaulting A. lloeft at Piopio last Saturday night, and was remanded for a week, on the application of the police. Hobson, in a statement to the police, said that Hooft, who is a German Samoan, called him by an objectionable name, and in a scuffle tried to bite his finger off. They were separated by bystanders, but Hoeft returned later and rushed at Hobson, who struck him with a stake about sft. in length and laid him out.
Hoeft was taken to the hospital with the base of his skull fractured. His condition is serious, but there was a slight improvement this evening.
