ATHENS. Sept. 1. The Premier ( M. Gonatas, has issued a statement in which he declared that a reply would not be sent to ■ the second Italian Note to Greece. -The latter will await tho decisions, of the League ;, of Nations. ,•....- •-■;.• .••.".-i.-.''-- ■ '■■... Greece - has protested to the Powers against the bombardment of unfortified forts, the killing of refugees, and the violation of international law. An Italian, . submarine* in the Gulf of Coumenitza fired on the Greek steamer Georgios, damaging her slightly. ... Telegraphic communication between Corfu and Athens has been cut. It is asserted that the Italians bombarded the forts, which wore denuded of guns in accordance with the Florence Convention, although the Italians were informed that the forts were inhabited by refugee orphans. A number of the latter were killed. ■■* ' if It is variously reported that the Governor of Corfu and ten officers are detained aboard an Italian warship. Admiral Solari commanding the Italian troops in Corfu, in a proclamation to the Islanders, declare the.occupation was necessitated by barbarous - murders. ,It was not an act of wair but simply a manifestation of Italy's inflexible will to obtain reparation. The occupation will remain temporary and peaceful unless the attitude of.islanders necessitates special measures to protect the Italian troops.
