AUSTRALIAN FAUNA.
ANOTHER SHIPMENT GOES. EXPORT NOW. PROHIBITED. Complaints that another consignment of Australian birds and animals, which included about 150 kangaroos, had left Sydney recently for New ;; York, have been brought under the notice of the Commonwealth Minister for Customs (Mr. Chapman), who has called for a report. "/•;•'•,;', Surprise has been expressed at the statement in view of the fact that an embargo was recently placed by the Customs ; department on the export of Austraiian*birds and ■ animals, which are protected in the Commonwealth. ' _ Kangaroos are included in the prohibited list, but it is understood that the shipment " by the Easterner was portion of a consignment for which permission to export was given before the embargo was imposed. In future, it is officially explained, no applications for export of Australian birds and animals will be granted until they have been investigated by the advisory committees to be appointed in the States to assist the Customs officials. The . committees, > after considering the applications, will submit recommendations to the Minister for Customs, whose decision will be, guided by the views expressed. '.■ " " : ■ ' : '
