CITY WAREHOUSE FIRE.
ALBERT STREET BUILDING. LITTLE DAMAGE CAUSED. An outbreak of fire, fortunately net attended .by serious results,' occurred about 10.30 o'clock last night, in the three-storeyed brick warehouse in Albert Street owned by Dearsleys, Ltd., boot manufacturers. The fire - originated apparency among packing cases in the rear portion of the ground floor, occupied by Hope Gibbons, Ltd., wholesale motor merchants, and was confined to that floor, the flames being extinguished by the fire brigade before they reached the floor above, which is occupied by the owners. . Little damage , was done to the building or stock. Portions of the woodwork were charred and scorched by the flames, and paint blistered ... by" the heat, and slight damage was done by water. In one place the fibrous plaster ceiling suffered considerably. The fire was first noticed by one of the occupants of.the-adjoining house; who saw smoke issuing from the side of the building. He ran into Welleslev Street in search of a constable, and informed- a passerby, i who broke. the fire alarm box at the corner of Cook and Albert Streets. The brinrade was quickly on the scene, but considerable difficulty was experienced in locating the seat of the fire, owing to the dense smoke. The. fire. had apparently been smouldering for a. considerable time. , - ' The insuranoes on the building and stocU were not available last - night.
