Wednesday Following the arrest and conviction of two girls for the theft of several thousand cigarettes from their employers, W. D • and H. O. Wills,, an elderly Chinesir. William Joseph Gett, appeared before Mr. E. Page, ; S.M., on a. charge of receiving 3300 cigarettes, valued at £8 3s . 3d, knowing the same .to have been dis-; honestly obtained. Teresa Budden deposed to stealing from her employers ana selling to Gett, who knew where the girls worked, arid asked them to get more. Altogether 30a were paid for ; 460 packets. Witnesa had lunch at Gett's shop on several occasions with Nola Frazer. Ethel Conrad, who Jived with Gett, had warned witness when Nola Frazer was arrested. ' Nola Frazer also; gave similar evidence. i Verna i Smith (forewoman) and• Neville Turner Brown (managing director) gave evidence as to the missing cigarettes. They traced tho girl to. the Chinaman's shop. - Counsel asked to have the case dismissed, as there was no corroboration of the girls' story, the accused denying his guilt. . ,i . ..
