EIGHT OASES YESTERDAY. T . -'.Sv<?;•::' V i '' .% ! :x' , ; :• . . : DEATH NEAR WARKWORTH. Eight cases pf pneumonic influenza were notified to the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. T. J. Hughes, yesterday. One occurred in tile city, three in the suburbs, and four in the country. One death was reported from Strearalands, near Warkworth. . The total number of cases for the month up to last evening was 44, while deaths numbered eight. f f Two hundred pupils were absent yesterday from the Northcota. district school, out of a roll number of 823, owing to influenza. • ■ v
HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION TAXED CHRISTOHURCH CONDITIONS. |"BV TELEGRAPH.—PRE 39 ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. It was reported to the Canterbury Hospital Board to-day that owing to the large number of acute cases of influenza and pneumonia coming to the hospital, it had been necessary to transfer all diphtheria patients to the infectious diseases hospital at Burwood, and also to empty wards 4 and 8. . The massage department had also been converted into a temporary ward. - The committee hoped public needs would be satisfactorily met at "the institution witTtoufc the esftumshmcnt of any temporary accommodation. Air. W. E. Leadley said he regretted the massage department had been closed so that' penumonia cases could be admitted. It was - not fair to massage patients. . J>r. P. 0. Fenwick sum Mr. Leadley evidently did not understand how serious the influenza epidemic had been. There had been a great struggle to cope with it. The report was adopted. MORE NOTIFICATIONS IN OTAGO.
