It is reported that nine of the teams . are very strong this season. There were quite a 1 number of, promising juniors out last year. :

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE.
The Management Committee of the Auckland Football Association met last evening. Mr. A. ■ Menzies presiding over a full ■ attendance. Communication _ wai 'received, from the' New Zealand Council at Wellington that the South Auckland Association had lodged a challenge for the Brown Shield, •which is at present held by Auckland. It . was decided to recommend that tße match be played at Hamilton on June 4. :, . : . : A report from the Grounds Committee that there was every prospect of securing a site for the formation of ■■ a football ground close to the city was warmly received, as it is recognised that the lack of playinj areas is the ; chief drawback to the advancement of the game in Auckland. As the proposal Under consideration will , entail considerable expense, it was decided that club members be asked to attend a meeting next Monday night at which the question will be fully discussed. , N • The boys' ■ sub-committee " reported that it had been decided to play all school matches on Wednesday afternoons/,allowing teams to make }■ mutual arrangements; where that day was not suitable.. The primary schools' competition will commence . on ■:■; May 9. Schools.' are notified that where A and B teams/are entered, the players are not interchangeable. .: v. .• [■■:'■■■;'.. ~ . ■':■•■ A telegram from Mr. A. '■ Salmon, sole selector of the New Zealand team to tour Australia _ this season, announced » -that Braithwaite, Corbett. Dacre, and Crayton, of Auckland, were certainties . for the tour, if available. All of the players mentioned, except Corbett, have signified their willingness to travel.; Prom„ the tone of the telegram it is expected that Innes and Buchanan will ■ also be included. N v ' ' ' ' k'l'lhm', chairman reported that private advice ! had been received in Auckland that a team of Chinese University students was leaving for a tour of New Zealand on May 12. The information came from a very re•Vn source, ' but as no official information had been- received it was decided to ask the New Zealand Council if any particulars were available, v ~ '> Advice was received from the New Zealand Referees' Association that the following Auckland referees had passed the qualifying examination and been awarded badges: —F. Marsh, A. Bowie, G. Campbell, and T. C. Kent. •.. - • • • Mr. T. McLaren having notified the" com-' mittee that ho would be; unable to represent .Auckland. on the New" Zealand . Had his letter been ; sent to the association, it : would have been referred to the selector.
