AUCKLAND CHESS CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The thirty-ninth annual meeting of the Auckland Chess Club was held on Thursday evening. Mr. A. Wright presided over an attendance of 25 members. The report states-that the following prizes were won during the year:—Club champion, J. A. Moir. 1; E. J. Miles, 2. Intermediate level: J. F. Senior, 1; C. Andreae, 2. Open handicap: A. Fotheringham, 1; C. Andreae, 2. Best in telegraphic matches: P. N. Stewart. Soveral of the winners generously returned their prize money as donations to the club. The following officers were :—Patron, Mr. R. H. Abbott; president, Mr. A. E. Layland; senior vice-president. Mr. F. W. Smith; junior vice-president, Mr. T. Coulthord ; treasurer, Mr. G. H. Edward; secretary, Mr. C. Stewart; assistant secretary, Mr. F. B. Runsnm; auditor, Mr. J. F. Sullivan; director of play, Mr. J. A. Moir; committee, Messrs. A. Fotheringham, B. McKenzie, D. J. Jones, and R. Barker. A presentation was made to Mr P. N. Stewart, who has been treasurer for eight years, and who is leaving for England. It was decided to formally open the season on April 26 with an open lightning tournament. ; :
