N.S. WALES DROUGHT.
DAY OF PRAYER FOR RAIN.
SERIOUS PASTORAL OUTLOOK
WATER CARTED FOR' MILES,
By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright, (Received 7.30 p.m.) A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, March 20. Under Government proclamation, tomorrow will be observed as a day of humiliation and prayers for rain. With the exception of a few favoured districts, chiefly coastal, the whole country is suffering from a severe shortage of water as the result of a protracted hot spell. In many places in inland districts even the water for household purposes is being carted for miles. Stock and crops are suffering severely. Feed is dried up, and the pastoral outlook is serious. Owners are pressing the Government to grant special railway concessions to enable them to remove stock from the drought areas to avert disaster. Prospects for the winter are gloomy, unless rain arrives quickly. The weather in the past week has been remarkable. The sky has been overcast and there have been frequent thunderstorms, with every indication of rain, but they have passed with only occasional drizzling sprinkles.
