HONORARY VISITING STAFF.
QUESTION OF ATTENDANCE.
The Auckland Hospital Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, presiding. There were also present: Messrs. G. Baildon, G. Knight, J. Dempsey, S. J. Harbutt, M. J. 'Coyle, W. K. Howitt, J. Rowe, E. H. Potter, J. Chalmers, H. Aitkenhead, and M. J. Savage, M.P. The honorary visiting staff was appointed. Some discussion took place in regard to the days upon which honorary visiting physicians attended the hospital. Mr. Knight said the honorary staff should be so divided that someone visited the hospital each day.' Mr. Coyle said it was out of the question that a patient should have to wait two or three days before an honorary physician saw him. ' The matter was referred to the Finance Committee, with power to act. The Prisons Department intimated that the Minister for Justice had obtained the opinion of the Crown Law Officers in regard to payment for the treatment of prisoners in the hospital, and had been advised that there was a duty on the hospital, under the Prisons Act, to receive and treat a prisoner. It was announced that the board's legal advisers considered it. would be quite justified in demanding payment on the usual scale. A copy of counsel's opinion is to forwarded to the Prisons Department. A donation of £31 10s was received from the Seventh Day Adventists, through the Auckland- Trotting Club, as an expression of appreciation of'tho club's kindness in allowing the use of its grounds for the recent conference. The medical superintendent reported in regard to apparatus which, by the exEenditure of £60, could be adapted for igh frequency work in the hospital massage department. It was agreed to grant the sum required.
