WANGANUI NOTES.

HORSES FOR AUCKLAND.

[from our own correspondent.] Explorer and Battle Song will be taken to Auckland this week to compete at the Easter meeting at Ellerslie. Battle Song was a bit sore after his fall last week, but is practically right again. , Tiiley expects to make a move Aucklandwards on the 27th inst. with Enthusiasm, Tukia, Tamatete, and Kinsem. This select little team should pick up a race' or two before returning home. There appears to be a disposition to think that because Enthusiasm failed to gain a p.ace in the Cup here her prospects in the classics at Ellerslie are not very rosy. However, it has to be remembered that she was set to carry 101b over weight-for-aso in the big event here, and it would have been a great performance on her part to have won. She is a good filly, and the way she is galloping suggests that she will be very hard to beat at Ellerslie. The other three are all well, particularly Tamatete and Kinsem. though Tukia may need a race after her spell before being at her very best. F. Tiiley is handling the full-brother to Tukia and Tamatoto. and thie youngster looks likely to show much of the brilliancy later on of his brother and sister. The Rangitikei meeting always attracts a number of Wanganui racegoers, and a good contingent are sure to visit Bulls on Wednesday and Thursday. The acceptances received are excellent, and the racing should be very interesting. The Wanganui horses engaged include Merry Ann, Rude, Moulu. Empyrean, War Loan. San Franette. Lively Fire, and Gaiety Girl. Rude will run in the Scott Memorial. The son of Cyrus has not raced for over a year, and it is hard to say how he will shape, though he has been doing good work. Moulu has been loping veny well lately, and it would not be surprising to see him nick up a race at the Rangitikei meeting. Gaiety Girl is to be given a run in the hurdles. The daughter of San Fran —The Hempie can jump with the best of them, and goes very fast for a mile, but whether she will stay out the extra three-quarters of a mile remains to be seen. The Zimmerman gelding War Loan is in excellent form, and he is expected to run well in his engagements at the Rangitikei meeting. Mr. B. T. Bennett has put Khartoum into work again. The gelding had to be spelled owing to a swelling in his nose, tho outcome of a fall he had at Napier last season. The treatment he has been subjected to appears to have had the desired effect, and the son of King Rufue should go on all right now. T. Long has Piffle and Rauaka in steady work in view of their engaeements at Feilding. The former has not raced for a long time, but Rauaka was a starter at the Wanganui meeting. The racing ther« livened him up. and the son of Maniapoto— Monovale is now hitting out well, He i« a five-year-old and looks like one that should make a good jumper. FORTHCOMING MEETINGS. The Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting will require further attention at the hands of owners on or before Friday next, on which date, at 5 p-m.. acceptances close for all handicaps set down lor decision on the oneniiw day. and forfeits for the Great Northern Champagne Slakes.
