RANGE OF WIRELESS.
MESSAGES FROM PARIS.
READ IN WELLINGTON.
[BY. TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. The atmospheric, conditions prevailing during the last few- days have been remarkably propitious for the reception of ether waves. A local wireless experimenter, who is also a professional wireless operator, reports that, using a singlewire aerial about 20ft. high and 30yds long, lie has been able to read messages transmitted by many American and European high-powered wireless stations. At 4.15 p.m. on Saturday afternoon last the new French station near Paris was heard calling a station unknown, but probably in the Argentine. Alter several commercial messages the French station sent out a press market report in French, which was copied almost completely. A little later, about 5 p.m., an American coast station ' was heard to report on the running of a new high-frequency alternator, used by a station of apparently Japanese origin. Later in the evening the trans-Atlantic station at New Brunswick was heard tuning up prior to commencing routine transmission. At 9.30 a.m. on Sunday morning the French station at Lyons was heard calling apparently the French colonial station at Saigon, in China, and commenced a long commercial press telegram which was followed by messages addressed to Saigon. Lyons signals were such as to be copied perfectly at periods during Sunday. Other stations, including San Francisco, were also heard. The experimenter states that there is nothing new in his achievement, though it is rather unique that signals should, be heard so strong on such a small aerial and simple, receiving apparatus. The receiver used was of the home-made type, using a \singke "It" . type valve only, in conjunction with a pair of 3000 ohm telephone .receivers. •■ .
