STOCKS AND SHARES.
There was little alteration in the tone ; of the Auckland sharemarket yesterday. Holders of investment stocks were disinclined to lower quotations, and though the demand remained keen, little business was transacted. In Government securities Inscribed Stock, 1938, were sought at £97, sellers asking £97 10a. In the 1927 and 1929 issues buyers offered £97 7s 6d and £97 respectively, with no sellers. There were no buyers for Soldiers' Loan Bonds at £101 ss, while Soldiers' Inscribed Stock was offered at £100 15s (51 per cent.), and £97 10s (51 per cent,), without response. For War Loan, 1930, 1938, and 1939 issues, buyers offered £97; sellers quoted £97 10s for the 1930 issue, £98 for 1938. In local bodies' debentures Auckland Harbour Board's 6 per cents, changed hands at £105. In banks Australasias had buyers at £13 6s, with sellers at £13 12s. Nationals had inquiry at £6 7.s 6d. New S«uth Wales were sought at £37 10s with holders at £38 ss. For New Zealands 56s 3d was offered, sellers asking 57s 3d. Unions of Australia were offered at £14 4s, buyers £13 19s. In insurances buyers of Nationals offered 74?> 6d, and in New Zealands 27s 9d, with no sellers. South British had sellers at 38s. In shipping Northern Steamship had sale at 13s 9d. In timbers Kauris changed hands at 27s 7d. Taupiri Coal sold at 20s 6d. In miscellaneous lines Paper Mills sold at 255, and Wilsons Cement at 24s 3d. In mining Waihis wero quoted 295, buyers 28s 6d. Grand Junctions were looked for at 8s 6d, with sellers at 6d above that' figure. Quotations for Moanataiaris showed no change. The following sales took place: Auckland Harbour Board, 6 per cent, debentures, £105; Northern Steamship, 13s 9d; Kauri Timber, 27s 7d; Taupiri Coal, 20s 6d; Now Zealand Paper Mills, 255; Wilsons Cement, 24s 3d.
