THAMES HARBOUR SCHEME.
OPPOSITION AT PAEROA.
[BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ' PAEROA. Tuesday. At the monthly meeting of tho Paeroa Borough Council a letter was received from the Thames Harbour Board regarding the forthcoming poll in connection with the raising of a £60,000 loan for harbour improvements. Mr. J. W. Silcock. who was the council's delegate at the Morrinsviile conference relating to the scheme, stated that at the meeting at Morrinsville all present were strongly opposed to the. carrying of tho loan proposals. He had spoken strongly against the proposal?. Several meniheis expressed ttieii opinions as emphatically opposed 'co the scheme, stating that it was a matter that only benefited Thames, and that the upcountry people, with the steamer service to Paeroa to serve them, would not receive any benefit from an improved harbour at Thames. On "die motion of the Mayor it was decided to endorse the action of the council's representative in opposing the loan proposals. The council agreed to bear the Thames delegates if they wished to address the council.
