CIGARETTES ON SUNDAY.

CHRISTCHURCH WARNING.

A warning to shopkeepers who are in the habit of selling cigarettes on Sunday was given by Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court in Christchurch, when several offenders came before him. The magistrate, in fining each of them 20s and costs, said that they need not look forward to such leniency next time. He made the. fines low because, there had not been prosecutions for Sunday trading for some time. '' Persons who sell cigarettes in this way are not only trading on Sunday, but they are unfairly competing with other tobacconists,'' said Mr. Wilson, " and unless the practice ceases I will have to raise the fine "
