HEAVY CUSTOMS DUES.

OVER £30,000 ON MONDAY.

HIGHEST SUM IN 18 MONTHS.

THREE LARGE CARGOES.

The customs revenue collected at Auckland on Monday totalled over £30,000. This is the largest amount collected at this port in one day since September, 1921, the height of the boom, when over £33,000 was paid. The latter amount is a record for the pore. In ordinary circumstances the amount of revenue coir lected daily at Auckland is about £6000. The unusually large amount of customs business is duo to the fact that three steamers are discharging largo quantities of cargo from England and the Continent. The Corinthio and Paparoa, both from London, are discharging at the Queen's Wharf, and the Westmeath is discharging cargo from Avonmouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool at tho King's Wharf. Their cargo consists of basic slag and kainit from England and Holland, sulphate of potash, ohampagne, cases of window glass, gin, white lead, confectionery, candles, paint, woollen goods, boots, shoes, machinery, whisky, tobacco, cigarettes, gun metal, brass, and various other kinds of general merchandise. A further large quantity of general merchandise is being landed from the steamer Trevessa, which arrived at Auckland from Nova Scotia and New York yesterday l morning. The Hurumui, /due to-night from Liverpool, also has a large quantity of cargo for this port.
