SCOUT NEWS.
BY KUAKA. St. Peter's Girl Peace Scouts held their first pound night for this year on Wednesday, a numter of the St. Andrew's girls being present. Competitions were held, and with recitations and songs, introducing a camp fire scene, a very pleasant evening was spent. The senior members of the Grey Lynn troop are very busy making ready with their fire-fighting display for the May rally. This section of the Gray Lynn troop is now settled in its new den. It is a cosy little home, and one of the boys has been busy installing electric light. It is expected that all will take part in an interesting trek at Easter. Epiphany troop held its weekly parade on Friday evening, 18 scouts being in attendance. The whole evening was dovoted to first and second-class training. Patrol competitions were keenly contested, the hounds again proving most successful. The troop is to hold its first pound night in the near future, and is making ready for its Easter camp Members of the St. David's troop are very busy preparing for the first and second-class tests. The ambulance team is once again working under its very capable instructor, Mr. Howse v The Court of Honour, after parade, 'decided to limit recruits to boys who are prepared for the tenderfoot test, this to count toward the first-class test of the scout who trains them. Takapuna troop has taken up its clubswinging with enthusiasm and should be able to give a very good display on May 5. The Holy Sepulchre troop had 26 scouts on parade last Thursday evening. The scouts had careful instruction in square and diagonal lashing for bridge building. The various patrols got to work in a real scoutv fashion. The troop went to Western Sprincrs on Saturday, where hutbuilding and fire-fighting were practised. On Tuesday they will hold a swimming parade at the Tepid Baths. The patrol leaders and seconds of Leys troop spent last week-end in camp at Western Springs. They had a most enjoyable and profitable camp and intend to pass on to their patrols all they learned at tho camp. The Ponsonby troop is making good progress under its scoutmaster, Mr. J. Stewart. The members are showing very keen interest in their test work, and are making steady preparation for their hutbuilding display on May 5 Shackleton troop had a meeting last weeks at its headquarters at Gordon Road, at which the district commissioner was present. Mr. Grigsby announced that Mr. A. E. Berry ha& been appointed scoutmaster of this troop. On St. Patrick's Day the whole of the scouts of the Auckland district will take part in a rehearsal of the combined 'work for the May rally. The troops will meet at the top of St. Stephen's Avenue, and march to the grounds of the Maori College, where they will practice. The Grey Lynn No. 1 troop held its usual weekly parade on Friday evening, there being an excellent attendance. The scoutmaster notified the troop that he had received a letter from the scoutmaster of the Shackleton troop, challenging Grey Lynn to a cricket match. This was accepted with enthusiasm, and at the close of the parade a. representative team was chosen. On Saturday afternoon the leaders took charge of their own. patrols, for outdoor scouting at Western Springs. The Gordon troop at its last monthly, meeting decided to add a few lady members to tho troop committee. The colours of this troop are a navy blue scarf, with a diamond of Gordon tartan. Monday evenings are now taken up with instruction in boxing and semaphore signalling. The troop is gradually attaining to a fair measure of efficiency, and looki*:? forward to the next examinations for secondclass tests. , •
