"PERNICIOUS SYSTEM."
PRICE-CUTTING DEPLORED. WELLINGTON GROCERS. Price-cutting, while it may be advantageous to the general public, naturally does not meet with the approval of business competitors. The subject is referred to in the annual report of the Wellington Grocers' Union of Employers. "It is with regret your executive notices the pernicious system of cutting prices is again ruling, and appears to be fairly general in th© principal cities of the Dominion," says the report. "The ultimate result will be that the trade must seriously consider ways and means to combat this objectionable method of trading. "During the year there have been two bonus reductions authorised by the Court, 5s and 3s respectively. In view of possible future claims from the Employees' Union, traders are advised to take advantage of the ruling of the Court." There ar« approximately 150 grocers in Wellington and suburbs, and the report stresses the urgency of increasing the membership of the union. At the end of the year there were 56 members on the roll.
