TENTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE. OIVIO RECEPTION TENDERED The tenth annual conference of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association opened at the Town Hall yesterday, the president, Mr. A. Thompson, presiding over delegates from the four cenrtes. A civic reception was teudered the delegates in the morning. After extending a hearty welcome on behalf of the city, the Mayor, Mr. J. tL Gunson, paid a high tribute to the activities of the association. There was no institution in the city of which citizens were more proud, he declared, than that, of the commercial travellers. Tlioy had performed splendid work and the recent hospital effort was specially deserving of credit. , , , , Appropriate replies to the Mayor welcome were made by the president, Mr. A. Thompson, and the honorary treasurer, Mr. H. H. Wauchop. - In his opening address to the conference, the president referred with pleasure to tke acceptance by the GovernorGeneral, Lord Jellicoe, of the position of patron. He dwelt on various matters respecting the Dominion's trade and commThe annual report showed that the revenue of the accident and sickness fund had been £1580. The sum of £1050 was on deposit. Claims amounting to £568 were paid during the year, for accident £288, and sickness £280. Mr. J. F- Ewen, patron of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Club, and Mr. Ernest Davis, vice-patron, joined in extending the delegates a hearty welcome. , . , The delegates, with their friends, were the guests of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Club at dinner and attended His Majesty's Theatre in the evening.
