AUSTRALIA'S PROSPERITY.
REPLY TO LABOUR DOUBTS.

The i East Ham branch of the Independent Labour Party forwarded to Sir Joseph Cook, High Commissioner for Australia, a resolution condemning the migration of boys, and demanding the immediate withdrawal of Government circulars advocating juvenile migration. Sir Joseph Cook replied, : pointing out that British trades unions had steadily supported juvenile migration for many years. Referring to the allegation that migration would only aggravate existing unemployment in Australia, Sir Joseph quoted Mr. Justice Power's judgment at the Kalgoorli3 Arbitration Court, in which he mentioned that occupiers owned 90 per cent, of the private dwellings in Kalgoorlie, and declared that no town in the United Kingdom could show a. similar condition. Sir Joseph contended that these and similar facts were evidence of the high general level of prosperity in Australia.
