THE CHURCHILL MEMOIRS.
STORY OF THE WAR YEARS. PUBLICATION TO-MORROW. The first instalment of Mr. Winston Churchill's wartime memoirs will appear in the "Herald', to-morrow. The publication of these memoirs has been awaited with keen anticipation in Britain, and in view of their historical value and literary interest the Herald has purchased the copyright for the Auckland Province. No account of the war years has been written in - such picturesque and telling language, and none has been written with more knowledge of the impressive facts which at the time were known to but half a dozen people. There is no hesitation or concealment about this narrative. It goes straight to the subject. The first chapter describes the eve of the war in Britain, how the threat of war affected British statesmen and the Admiralty, and how the British Navy was prepared and ready. The second chapter, to appear on; Monday, brings the narrative up to Britain's entry into the war and the thrilling pursuit of the German cruiser Goeben. Readers will find the memoirs a pleasure and an education. Mr. Winston Churchill's literary ability is unquestioned. On this occasion he had a subject worthy of special treatment and it, quite naturally, reveals him at his best. The publication of the memoirs will continue daily until completion. • _______________.
