HERD-MILKING CONTESTS.
BLOOD STOCK AS PRIZES. { • A novel scheme affecting competitive herd-milking;' is to ,be placed beforei fi meeting of dairy farmers of the district by Mr. T. .7. Fox, secretary of the Manawatu Dairy Union. The suggestion is that dairy > factories should award prizes in the form of blood stock to suppliers whose cows give; the highest average butter-fat yield over a given period. This, it is pointed out, .would tend, to improve the standard of herds by the introduction of many stud beasts should numerous factories endorse the ; scheme. . - ■ ■ ;•• '.
