BEAUTIFYING WHAKATANE.
CAMPAIGN TO RAISE FUNDS. [bt teliigraph.—own CORRESPONDENT.] .WHAKATANE. Wednesday..'The need for funds carry on the good work of the Whakatane Beautifying Society was emphasised at', a largelyattended meeting of the society last night presided over by Mr.C A. Suckling. The chairman said it had been suggested that a queen carnival or other such fete, should be held with the twofold object of stimulating interest in the society and the raising of necessary funds to extend activities m the direction of further beautifying the town., ,: ; «i Mr. E.. F. Snell pointed out that the School Committee had already a scheme afoot to; raise funds for the improvement of theschool grounds, and he suggested the running of a queen carnival for the combined objects of the ; school and society. After discussion, It was resolved to fall in with the idea of a combined effort. ■ A strong committee was set up, and Messrs. W. R. Boon and E. Beckett were appointed ' organisers of the proposed carnival, which it "is proposed shall be held toward the end of April,: . > f
