LIBERAL DISSENSIONS.

LLOYD GEORGE REBUFFED. WHIP RESIGNS IN PROTEST. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Feb. 13. Mr. Lloyd George, addressing a meeting of. Liberal peers • and National Liberal members of the House of Commons, said that now, as ever, it was his desire to see the greatest possible measure of party unity attained in support of the essential principles of Liberalism. He had not seen the same desire in " We Free" quarters, where his advances for practical cooperation had met with no response. Mr. J. M. Hogge'has resigned his position of Liberal Party Whip in consequence of Mr. Asquith appointing Mr. Vivian Phillips Chief Whip. Mr. Hogge declares that the organisation of the Liberal Party is absolutely undemocratic, and it suffers from being a close corporation. It is rank folly that the party in its present condition should do anything else than attempt to secure a united party forthwith.
