Franz, aged 28 years, decided to asphyxiate with coal gas the inmates of his stepmother's apartment, including his sister, his fiancee, and himself. The attempt failed, but not to be baulked, he armed himself with a razor and almost severed the heads of his stepmother and sweetheart, and mortally wounded his Bister. He then hanged himself to the doorpost.
