RECOURSE TO LEAGUE.
OPPOSITION AMENDMENTS. LABOUR AND LIBERAL. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 12.30 a.m.) LONDON. Feb. 13. Mr. J. R. Clynes, on behalf of the Labour Party, will move the following to the address:—" That recognising that the grave dangerous condition in Europe and the Near East will be a certain source of future wars and serious aggravation of unemployment, the House regrets the absence of a policy which will check the progressive economic ruin of Europe and contemplates all-round cancellation of war debts as an essential part of a workable general settlement and the employment of the League of Nations in settling critical matters like the Ruhr occupation, and urges the early reconsideration of peace treaties, especially the economic clauses." The National Liberals' amendment suggests that the Council of the League of Nations appoint, a commission of experts to report upon the capacity of Germany to pay reparations, the best method of making payments, and that in view of the United States' offer to participate in a conference, the League should invite American experts to serve on the commission.
