DERAILMENT OF TRUCKS.
ACCIDENT IN THE NORTH. PERMANENT* WAY DAMAGED. i [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT. j| , _ WHANGAREI. Saturday. Thirteen trucks were derailed on the Whangarei section of ' the railway esterday- afternoon. A goods train of 21 trucks, (chiefly loaded with coal from Hikurangi and limestone from Waro, had left. Kuatangata station (Kamo Springs), and was travelling at the usual speed toward Kamo, when the eighth truck from: the engine jumped the' rails and went over the embankment, drawing ; a dozen other • trucks " and the guards' van after it.
Tim van remained upright at the side of the track, but the trucks piled up in confusion. The snapping of the couplings automatically applied. the brakes and brought the engine and leading trucks to a standstill in a few yards. There were two - passengers in the guard's van, but: beyond the alarm .and Bhaking, no one was the worse. The rails and sleepers were torn up for several yards, and the evening train for the North was, delayed three hours while the line was cleared and repaired by a breakdown gang. -
