EFFORT TO RA.ISE £25,000. .
_An effort is,.. to he made ~ to raise £25,000 for Wellington's war memorial. *f.„™ originally been intended to raise £10,000, but the assessor, . Mr. W. H. Gummar, expressed the opinion that this sum would not suffice for a' fitting symbolical memorial. On Mr. Gummer'a recommendation it was, therefore, decided to aim at raising £25.000. The site of the ■; proposed! ■ memorial—on . the vacant land at the rear of the Royal Oak Hotel —has been uurveyed and the foundations tested.
